The pattern itself is the point: a tool can defeat one checker and still leave you with a paragraph that says less than what you started with.

Why Optimizing for the Score Backfires

Detectors look for statistical fingerprints — predictable word choices, uniform sentence length, certain transition patterns. An aggressive tool's fastest way to erase those fingerprints is to break the patterns directly, whether or not breaking them serves the sentence. That can mean swapping a precise verb for a vaguer one, splitting a clear thought into two fragments, or dropping a qualifier that changed the meaning of a claim.

None of that shows up in a detector score. It shows up when a colleague, a professor, or a customer actually reads the paragraph and has to guess what you meant. A grader or editor doesn't run your submission through a detector first — they just read it. If it reads oddly, the detector score never comes up, because the writing already gave itself away.

A trick that beats today's model may be exactly what next quarter's model is tuned to catch, since pattern-breaking artifacts are themselves a pattern.
