How to Humanize AI Text for Resumes

Make AI-generated text read naturally for resumes. A practical guide to breaking the robotic patterns detectors and readers both notice.

Resumes are the riskiest place for AI text

A growing number of employers run resumes through AI screening and AI detection at the same time. The screening tool looks for keywords and fit, while the detector flags text that looks machine-generated. A resume that trips the detector can get filtered out before a human ever sees it.

The bigger problem is that AI resume bullets all sound the same. Every candidate becomes a results-driven team player who spearheaded initiatives and drove synergies. Recruiters read hundreds of these and tune them out. Humanizing your bullets is what makes you stand out, not what hides you.

The fix is also the thing that makes you a stronger candidate anyway. Concrete numbers and specific methods are exactly what recruiters want to read, so humanizing a resume is the rare edit that helps with both the bot and the human reviewer.

Resume phrases that read as AI-generated

  • "Results-driven professional with a passion for excellence."
  • "Spearheaded cross-functional initiatives to drive synergies."
  • "Proven track record of using innovative solutions."
  • "Dynamic and motivated team player."
  • "Seeking to utilize my skills in a challenging environment."

How to humanize resume bullets

  1. 1
Start every bullet with a verb

Use a strong action word like built, cut, grew, or rewrote. Avoid "responsible for" and "tasked with," which pad the line without adding anything.

  2. 2
Add a number to each bullet

Quantify the result: dollars, hours, percent, or count. A bullet with a number is roughly twice as likely to be remembered as one without.

  3. 3
Show the method, not just the result

Add half a line on how you did it. "Cut churn by 15%" is fine; "Cut churn 15% by fixing the onboarding email sequence" is human.

  4. 4
    Cut the summary fluff

Drop the two-line professional summary full of adjectives. Lead with your most recent role and let the bullets speak.

What recruiters actually scan for

7saverage time a recruiter spends on a first pass
75%of large employers use an ATS to filter resumes
2xrecall rate for bullets that include a specific number
Watch for ATS-unfriendly formatting

Some humanizing edits add columns or symbols that break applicant tracking systems. Keep the layout simple: single column, standard fonts, no text boxes. A resume that looks great but cannot be parsed will not reach a recruiter.

Recruiters skim for verbs and numbers. Every adjective you add is a word they skip, so trade adjectives for outcomes wherever you can.

The cover letter matters too

If your resume is tight, do not undo the work with a generic AI cover letter. The letter is where you sound most like a person, so write the opening and closing yourself and let AI handle the middle paragraph if needed.

Before you submit, paste the resume text into the free detector at AI Humanizer Lab. Any bullet that reads high is the one to rewrite. The humanizer tool can also smooth stiff phrasing with no signup and no length cap.
